One of the most incredible things my gastric bypass surgery…
Pregnancy after bypass: Week 17 pregnancy diary
This week has seen me get a little bit unwell for the first time in my pregnancy. I’ve had a cold all week and while it hasn’t been too bad it’s been annoying. Being pregnant and having a tiny bariatric tummy really limits anything you can take so I’ve got through with lozenges and Vicks Vaporub on my chest at night. This week the baby is the size of an onion apparently!
We started the week off with a lazy day at home. At the moment it’s a real achievement if I can have one day a week where I don’t leave the house. I’ve realised that I need to start slowing down and this is a good way for me to chill out a bit. I’ve felt a lot better this weekend and resting, unsurprisingly, is helping this.
I had a periodontist appointment and it was just a check-up but she did clean my teeth too. It really hurt this time, my previous gum disease seems to be flaring up a little bit again and that’s not unusual in pregnancy. My gums have been bleeding a little bit and have been more sensitive and her poking and prodding around in my mouth didn’t help. I need to keep on top of it though so I have booked an appointment to go and get my teeth cleaned again in a few months.
I got a lot of study done again this week. The intake for my diploma seems really short this time and I already feel like I need to cram to get it done in time. With my huge efforts this week I’m about halfway through my coursework and I went out for a few hours on Saturday to write one of my final submissions. I tend to do the internal work and then write the final submission straight away and then the week it’s due I just need to edit/correct it and add in the referencing. It feels good to get halfway. I still need to push on though.
On Thursday I went to The Food Show and it was a really nice way to break up my week at work. I got to sleep in a bit longer than usual and my little guy and I had a chilled morning before he had to head off to school. Then I went to The Food Show and it was a great show this year. My tummy and pregnancy meant there were a lot of cheese, cold meat and pate/dip samples I had to pass up but there was still lots for me to try.
We had yet another kids’ birthday party on Saturday. After being out all morning writing my final submission and then spending the afternoon at a hall I had been frozen all day. I promptly got home and turned the heater on. We had a nice dinner of the duck I picked up at The Food Show and it was a nice end to this week of my pregnancy.
How far along? 17 weeks now!
How big is the peanut? About the size of an onion.
Total weight gain/loss? This week I gained 1kg. I’m not terribly happy about this and probably need to pull my eating in a bit.
Maternity clothes? Those maternity jeans are still firm faves of mine.
Sleep? Has been okay this week. A little bit disrupted because of my cold and coughing at night but I can’t complain really.
Best moment this week? Having a day off work in the middle of the week.
Symptoms? I have had a bit of round ligament pain recently. I pulled something one night when I was moving around in bed and felt it for a few days after.
Gender? It’s only a couple of weeks until we find out now!
What I miss? After seeing my favourite pate brand at The Food Show I have had pate on the brain. At least that’s something I can eat when I’m breastfeeding.
What I’m looking forward to? Finding out the gender of the baby in a couple of weeks.
Bump? It has arrived and it’s here to stay. I noticed a bit of variation in how big it looked this week but it’s always there!
