Balance 100% Whey Protein Powder Review

I have branched out lately and have tried a new protein powder because while your old favourites can be comforting and reliable it’s good to change things up once in a while isn’t it! I have a group of surgery buddies and I mentioned I was thinking of trying a new protein powder and I was recommended by a few others to try Balance 100% Whey Protein Powder.

The nutritional breakdown of this protein powder is pretty good.

Per Serving (28 grams) values are as follows:

Protein 22.2 grams

Fat 1.5 Grams

Carbs: 1.9 grams

Sugar: 1.4 grams

Balance 100% Whey Protein Nutrition Panel

To start with this protein powder is really high in protein and low in carbs, sugar and fat which is a must if I’m considering having it. I got a 1.5 kilo tub of it online for around $75 (it was on special but is usually about $79 – $109 which is great considering it will last me almost two months. As you know I have a protein shake for breakfast everyday and the cost per serving breaks down to $1.41.

One of the things I get really hung up about with protein powders is how well they mix in because I hate the gritty powdery taste that so many protein powders give you. Balance 100% Whey Protein blends perfectly just in a shaker. That’s right, you don’t need to bother with a stick blender or whizzy machine because a shaker is more than enough.

I have tried the Orange Choc Chip and the Lime Milkshake flavours so far. I found the Orange Choc Chip ridiculously sweet and while I got through it I wouldn’t get that flavour again. I am quite sensitive to sweetness now though so others might not find it too bad. I am really enjoying the Lime Milkshake flavour though. I love lime flavour of anything really and this one is a really good lime flavour and isn’t too sweet.

You can mix this protein powder with any liquid. Water is suggested on the packaging but I know some people mix it with milk for a bit extra protein. I played around a bit and found I like it most with half milk (100ml) and half water (100ml). Mixed with water alone it’s okay but to be honest isn’t the greatest. Mixed with just milk it gets really bubbly and foamy and I don’t like having too much air in my tummy. But mixed with half milk and half water it’s the best mix (for me) of palateability, taste and texture so that’s what I’m sticking with.

Balance 100% Whey Protein Powder seems to be really readily available too. Most online sport supplement places stock some or all of the range and I’ve heard good things about NZ Muscle (They have a physical store on Constellation Drive in Auckland) in terms of really fast shipping of online orders. I’ve only visited them instore so haven’t had an online shopping experience with them yet and can’t say for sure how quick they are. *Update as at 04 April, I did an online order on Friday last week late at night and it arrived today (Monday) at lunchtime. That kind of service and speed is awesome.

I’m looking forward to trying more of the flavour range, I’ve heard the banana flavour is quite good and while looking online I’ve spotted a chocolate mint flavour! I’m going to give Balance 100% Whey Protein 5/5 stars because it suits bariatric post-ops perfectly, it mixes really well and once you find a flavour you like it’s really yummy too!

Have you tried any of the Balance Sports Nutrition protein powders? What do you think of them and please comment below if you have a flavour recommendation for me!

While I rave about this protein powder I just wanted to let you guys know I bought it myself and definitely haven’t been paid to write this review. I have done this review to share a good find with you guys!

I am obsessed with them! I’ve only tried the divine chocolate and cookies & cream flavours. Chocolate was so good (duh), but cookies & cream was HARD to get through. There was just…nothing there? If that makes sense. I’m someone who is obsessed with cookies & cream ANYTHING, so I was disappointed. I want to try the hokey pokey and chocolate mint flavour! Yuuuum.

I brought the chocolate, but not much of a fan, might try mixing with water and milk, or mixing it up and trying a different flavour instead. I have noticed they have a nice wide range

It’s definitely refreshing since most brands have 4 or 6ish to choose from. I find how I mix it makes a huge difference so I hope you find a way to enjoy it more.

I also have just got the chocolate and despite the assurances from the guy at the store it is not sweet I find it sickening…will not buy again. Might try mixing it with something else or watering it down more.

Unfortunately we all have different tolerances and perceptions of sweetness. I find buying protein powders such a gamble and that’s why when I find one I like I stick with it.

Tried the choc one – not a fan, too sweet. The strawberry one is awesome! Tastes just like a strawberry shake and not too sweet.

It’s funny how different we all are! I find some of them overwhelmingly sweet (I’m looking at you orange choc chip) and have funny things such as I only like the strawberry flavour when it’s mixed with milk. Lime I can take mixed with milk or water.
