Pregnancy After Bypass: Week 10 Pregnancy Diary

Pregnancy After Bypass: Week 10 Pregnancy Diary

This week has been pretty good really. I haven’t suffered so much with the tiredness this week, although it being a short week might have helped there, and overall I’ve been feeling pretty good. The baby started this week off about the size of a strawberry, you still can’t tell I’m pregnant by looking at my tummy which is great!

This week started with lunch out with my mum and dad and heaps of their friends. It was really nice catching up with them but it sucked not being able to tell them I was pregnant. We went to a Mediterranean restaurant and it was hard to pick something to eat with my bariatric and pregnancy diet restrictions. I was at a bit of a loss so I ordered French toast (I have never had it since my bypass) because I knew I would get some bacon and it was my best bet protein wise.

Monday was a public holiday and after mum and dad headed off home in the morning we just chilled out for a few hours. After having another really busy weekend I was glad for some downtime. This week at work was hectic and oh my gosh I hardly had time to think. I’m so glad I wasn’t feeling the tiredness so badly this week because I don’t know how I would have got enough done if I was.

I saw my midwife for the first time in this pregnancy this week. It was so nice to see her again and it was like no time had passed since we last caught up, it had been five years! The first midwife appointment is lots of forms being filled in, information being given and we went over my last pregnancy and the things that happened in that one that may influence this one.

I had a c-section with my first child and, if I can, I would like to avoid having another one this time. It’s going to be interesting to see how this pregnancy goes because if it is at all medically indicated that I need an elective c-section then I will have one but I would like to avoid another surgery and the recovery involved in that. We talked about this for a little bit and my midwife is leaning towards an elective because of my history so let’s see how this pans out.

To finish my week I had a coaching session to deliver on Saturday morning which was awesome and my little guy had a mate over for a playdate. For once, and maybe it’s because five year olds aren’t so bad, my house wasn’t an absolute bombsite when they were finished. Then we went out in the afternoon and got his haircut ready for his first day of school! It was a super busy week this week with so much going on but my symptoms were really not bad so it was easier than the last few weeks have been.

How far along? 10 weeks, the end of the first trimester is in sight!

How big is the peanut? About the size of a strawberry.

Total weight gain/loss? I freaked out this week because I thought I had put on a kilo in a week but it was only 100 grams.

Sleep? My sleep has been better this week, I’ve still been waking up needing to pee a few times a night but I’m getting back to sleep easier which is great.

Best moment this week? Seeing my midwife and kicking off that side of things for this baby.

Symptoms? Not many to be honest, they’ve calmed down a bit this week and I’ve felt pretty normal.

What I miss? I really fancied a glass of wine this week but I couldn’t so I’m missing it.

What I’m looking forward to? The next scan in a couple of weeks!

Bump? Not yet, I’ve noticed I’ve thickened up around the middle a bit but nothing that’s noticeable in clothes.
