This year I’m keeping a wellbeing diary!

Wellbeing diaries and journaling was not really something I had ever thought about until I saw the awesome Tara from Allergic to Sugar (another NZ based gastric bypass blogger you should check out!) post on Instagram that she had got a beautiful wellbeing diary from Kikki K. I haven’t set myself firm goals this year and I thought this would be a great idea for me to have an idea of where I’m at each week, so I went ahead and got one!

Our wellness and wellbeing is something I think many of us take for granted. Naturally, wellbeing sits alongside our physical health but I think that by focusing on wellbeing instead of health this sits much more within my theme word for the year. I’ve set my theme or intention for this year where I’m focusing on creating the future I want for myself. Wellbeing is one of those things I want and need to nurture because if I’m not well in every sense of the word it’s going to be harder to create and then enjoy what I am doing and achieving.

My plan is that I’m going to set aside some time each week and I think a Sunday night is going to be perfect for this, where I sit down, think about the week I’ve had and look forward to and plan the week coming. This dedicated time to sit and be mindful in itself is going to be quite helpful I think. A week is a good chunk of time for me because I know I will not have the time or inclination to do it everyday. I won’t limit myself though, if I have inspiration to get something down because I don’t want to lose it in the busyness of my week then I will get it down.

The things I plan to track are my health related appointments, when I exercise, if my sleep is out of the ordinary, how I’m feeling generally, any really stressful events or things that may be impacting on me, and anything else that seems relevant at the time. So each week I will fill in the gaps of what’s happened that week and look forward to the coming week and plan my exercise and other things that need to be scheduled in.

I have just finished doing the monthly wrap-up for January. The diary asks you for your achievements, challenges, learnings and happy moments and at first I stared at the page, “Well I don’t know,” but because I’ve filled the month in I could look back and I was reminded of all the things that had happened that month and soon enough I had at least two points in each box. The biggest challenge was getting through that awful bout of food poisoning I had and the happiest moment was watching two of our awesomest friends get married!

This year I'm keeping a wellbeing diary

I’m looking forward to being more mindful about my year and noting down all sorts of things that I wouldn’t usually take time to document. My wellbeing diary is just for me and I love that I can write whatever I feel like in there. Have you ever heard of or thought about keeping a wellbeing diary? Comment below and let me know I’d love to hear if you have.

I really hope mine is going to help me in that way! It’s good to have a reminder and a reason to keep your own wellbeing at the front of your mind, it’s too easy to let it slip down the priority list.

Great idea! I think it’s so easy to dwell on negative things. A wellbeing diary helps us to concentrate on the good stuff. I think it would also be good to note how any bad stuff that’s going on can be overcome too.

I’m looking forward to looking back on it at the end of the year and seeing what my overall theme and tone for the year was. That’s a great idea about making notes for what worked to get over the harder stuff, I think I’ll keep that in mind to note down 😀

I’ve been writing in mine every two or three days and I have felt the most at peace this month than I have in a long time. I’m asserting myself as a priority … and I can feel the positivity flowing into other things!
I’m very glad I kept a Food & Exercise Journal for my first 14 months, that kept me centred on my primary goals of nutrition and recovery, and now its matured into this. My diary also helps me write my monthly “Currently.” wrap up posts. Hope you are loving it as much as I am!

You’ve reminded me that I need to do mine today! I’m so glad it’s having such a positive flow on effect for you Tara! I am enjoying mine, although since getting that nasty bug it hasn’t been such a happy record so far.
