Revised entry criteria for Massey University bariatric research!

Updated Feb 2017: Please note Sara has enough participants and she is not currently accepting anyone else.

You might remember that a couple of months ago I let you, my lovely readers, know about a research project that was being undertaken by Sara Lake from the Food and Nutrition department at Massey University and you can read the original post here.

This was how I described the study in my original post: Sara is undertaking a research project where she is going to focus on the ‘lived experience’ of women undergoing gastric bypass. This is how she sums it up, “What we are trying to do is look at how people could be better supported in the very early phase of the process: before surgery and up to six months after surgery at this point. I’m focusing of which aspects of life participants have found most challenging, or most helpful, in preparing for surgery, readying themselves for the coming changes, and coping with the behavioural and psychosocial changes that come after surgery.”

Originally Sara was only accepting gastric bypass patients for her study but she has now opened it up to sleeve gastrectomy patients as well. To fit the new criteria for her study you would be a woman over the age of 18 who is preparing for or recently (within a few months) had gastric bypass or sleeve gastrectomy surgery. Here’s a link to the Massey University website which outlines the study in more detail and has Sara’s details so you can register your interest, if you’re interested, here.

If I was in the right stages of being able to participate I would be jumping at the chance to participate. I think having been a university student and participating in some when I was a student makes me a bit more partial to joining in on these things. Sara needs 12 more participants so if you’re in the right stages pre or recently post op then get in touch with Sara, ask any questions you may have and see if this is for you.

Here’s the link again out in full just in case you missed it further up in the text:

Thank you for blogging about this! I have emailed Sara to register my interest as I recently had gastric sleeve surgery 🙂

That’s awesome Danii! It sounds like Sara has had a few emails recently so don’t worry if it takes her a couple of days to get back to you. I would have loved to be a part of something like this when I had my surgery.
